What should I wear?

Lightopia takes place outdoors and you may need to queue on busy days. Please wear appropriate outdoor clothing and footwear for winter weather. We reserve the right to refuse inappropriately clothed patrons’ access.

What time should I arrive?

We advise arriving 15 minutes before your booked entry start time. Bear in mind that if you are driving to the event, there may be traffic. We advise taking this into consideration when deciding on what time to begin your journey.

Lightopia Festival is suitable for all ages and is to be enjoyed by everyone.

Are pets welcome?

Unfortunately, no pets are allowed to join your journey. Assistance dogs are allowed.

What is Lightopia Festival?

Lightopia is festival of hand-sculpted lanterns, cherry-picked from across the globe. These unique pieces are carefully curated into a spellbinding trail that leads through the beautiful Heaton Park.

Revellers will journey through different themed areas along a route which also includes food stalls and licenced bars that offer refreshments along the way.

The Lakeside water show plays a key role in the experience, as state-of-the-art projections create a visual masterpiece, bringing the story of Lightopia to life; with a new production created for 2020 that reflects the Lightopia theme of discovery.

New this year is the stand-out Christmas showcase, which uses the Grade I-listed Heaton Hall as its sparkling backdrop – enjoy the most wonderful time of the year at Lightopia, as you pass by Santa’s sleigh, glistening snowflakes and make your own festive soundtrack with a giant interactive walking piano.

How long does it take?

On average people spent 1.5 hours at the event in 2019, however depending on your walking pace and whether or not you choose to partake in other activities on-site including food, drinks, rides, this time period may be shorter or longer

Is the event accessible for wheelchair users?
Lightopia is wheelchair accessible and we have disabled parking space, however, we don’t have a special disabled parking ticket.
Please purchase a standard parking ticket when you purchase your event ticket.
Upon arrival, please let our staff know that you need a blue badge parking space and they will guide you to an allocated space.
